May 26 2017 79
If we talk summer without mentioning ice cream we wouldn’t be doing summer justice. Ice cream is a treat enjoyed all year-round but never is it more deserving and delicious than under a blazing summer sun. Like most of you, I am a huge ice cream fan, so it’s no surprise that I wanted to create a list to share with you all. New York is always the first in fashion and food. Follow the New York City ice cream spot trends and see why everyone is raving about these places.

This is not your standard ice cream truck. There are no bells and there is no music, but that’s so beyond the point. Van Leeuwen is handcrafted summer sweetness. With flavors like Earl Grey Tea, Honeycomb, and Candied Ginger plus more than a few vegan flavors like Matcha Tea, Salted Caramel, and Cho Chip Cookie Dough there’s no way you’ll leave Van Leeuwen’s without a smile on your vegan or non-vegan face.  In addition, there are Current Special Flavors that vary by location, so check out their website and see which flavor provokes you to hit up the ice cream truck with the heart of a kid, but adult finesse.

Emack and Bolios

Ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet, fudge and chocolate –talk about a sweet tooth amusement park. No way will you leave Emack and Bolios without finding something that makes you feel the energizing jolt of a sugar rush. Their inspirations come from customers and cultures alike. They pride themselves on offering the best ingredients to make the best ice cream. And the proof is in the ice cream. Go for Space Cake, Mud Pie, or Heaven flavors for something unusual.  They have standard flavors, too, for the classic craving.

Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream is not playing around when it comes to ice cream. Their flavor’s looks like an Instagram ice cream lover’s page. What sets them apart is their cakes, which bring back childhood Dairy Queen birthday nostalgia with a serious twist. If their ice cream doesn’t get you all melty and gooey, they’ll get you with their calendar called Sorbae’s 2017 which is where fashion, food, art, and beauty collide and make a serious ice cream shake.

Ice and Vice

Get ready for this one. You might not be ready because this is not just an ice cream shop, it’s an entire experience. They claim to be the leaders in ice cream’s edgy, extravagant scene. And you know what, with names like Blood Sisters, Milk Money, Basic B, Unbirthday, and Shade –they very well could be not just the best at naming their flavors, but the most experimental joint on the market. Choose by name alone and have fun with your Ice and Vice visit.

Oddfellow Ice Cream

Oddfellow’s is odd because when you go it will never be the same thing twice. It’s like they change their wardrobe daily which makes this ultra-fashion.  Every day, their flavor menu changes; what they produce is fresh, small batch that is velvety, rich, and of the highest quality. With two locations, one in Williamsburg and the other in the East Village, you’ll be sure to find something that tickles your fancy. Call ahead of time if you want to know if a flavor they feature is still available otherwise you might be disappointed.

Of course, you expect the standard Chinese flavors to be at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, but don’t worry, they’ve got traditional flavors, too that they call Exotic. So whether you want to go for flavors from the East or West, you won’t be disappointed. Or how about blending the two? Chinatown Ice Cream Factory has put out mixtures like Green Tea Oreo, Lychee Rose, and Banana Durian to name a few.  They’ve even gone so far as to make a Jelly Doughnut flavor –so yummy.

 Sundaes and Cone

Sundaes and Cones is super traditional, but they’ve also kept up with the current ice cream trends by adding flavors like Corn, Tiramisu, and Black Sesame. Located in the East Village, it’s the perfect spot to grab a sundae or a cone and stroll around taking in the sights, the people, and the fashion. They encourage taking samples, so don’t be shy to ask for one.

It seems odd that a dessert place would want to call itself Taiyaki which means fried fish, but take a look at their story page to learn more and it will totally make sense. With waffles made on-site, this ice cream is a no-brainer. The home page for Taiyaki Soft Swerve says Unicorns Now Available –need they say more?  That’s enough reason for you to get there as fast as you can or in a New York minute.

Saved best of the best for last. Here’s what you get at Soft Swerve – Ube Purple Yam, Macapuno Coconut, Matcha Green Tea, and Black Sesame. If those flavors aren’t exotic enough, you can get a twist Soft Swerve cone, shake, or even a Swerve Special. Plus toppings in three categories, crunchies, chewies, and drizzles, this place is doing soft serve seriously. Clearly, Soft Swerve is looking to heighten the summer experience to a whole new level and all us ice cream lovers are thankful for their innovative genius.

Here are some cute pieces that you’ll want to consider for your next ice cream dates if you are looking forward to checking out any of these spots!
