Caroline Constas Dress | Gold Earrings SimilarIt has been such a crazy week – and now’s about the time I need to start showing my skin some TLC. With New Year’s Eve parties are coming up next, you should probably prepare your skin too for another night of dancing and drinks. If there’s only one product I can recommend to you for keeping your skin in tip top shape, it would be a battle between exfoliators, masks, and moisturizers. I don’t think I’ve ever shared my favorite exfoliators on the blog, so that’s what we’ll be covering today.
Before we begin, I want to caution you guys on a few things – first, don’t over exfoliate! I typically stick to two days a week in the wintertime. Also, avoid exfoliating the night before a big event. Although we all want luminous skin, we don’t need the extra shine when camera lights will be going off left and right. That being said, give yourself one to two days before a major occasion. Whether you’re acne prone or ultra sensitive, read ahead to get the best exfoliators for every skin type!
For Dry Skin
Dry skin types can be one of the hardest to treat in the winter time because you can easily irritate the skin. Since dry skin is often dull and sullen looking around this time, it’s important to look for products that not only exfoliate but also hydrate. For this reason, Kate Somerville’s Exfolikate Intensive Treatment is great because it contains aloe, honey, and Vitamin E, which smooth and soften the skin. Fresh’s Sugar Face Polish is another classic that uses strawberry seeds to hydrate the skin.
For Acne Prone Skin
Acne prone skin requires stronger ingredients, such as AHAs and BHAs to keep pesky breakouts at bay. Drunk Elephant is a brand I discovered this year and have been loving. Their exfoliating serum fights excess oil and acne scars overnight. For a more traditional scrub, Fresh’s Umbrian Clay Pore Purifying Face Exfoliator deeply cleanses the skin and keeps shine at bay.
For Sensitive Skin
For sensitive skin types, finding the right exfoliator is all about delicacy. You want one that’s so gentle that the skin won’t feel the slightest irritation. Drunk Elephant’s Baby Facial brightens and smoothes the skin out without the pain. I also love AmorePacific’s ultra gentle Enzyme Treatment Peel – it makes a huge difference and you don’t feel a thing.
For Oily Skin
With oily skin, it’s easy to think that all you want to do is rid the skin of its excess oil, but that’s actually counter productive. That’s why the Biossance Squalane + Gycolic Renewal Facial is such a great contender. Not only is it packed with essential AHAs that help with skin turnover, but the squalane helps lock in essential moisture. Paula’s Choice BHA Solution is a liquid exfoliant that effectively unclogs pores and is gentle enough for daily use.
For Combination Skin
If you have combination skin, you’re in luck with Murad’s AHA/BHA Cleanser. This product contains three exfoliating agents, including salicylic acid, lactic acid, and glycolic acid, which loosen buildup on the face. However, the sodium PCA to helps retain the necessary moisture and elasticity. If aging skin is your top concern, this one is also a wonderful choice! Peter Thomas Roth’s Overnight Resurfacing Pads lets you exfoliate and brighten easily on the go.
