My schedule is typically full but it is tripled come December, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love having an excuse to see all my favorite people at the most wonderful time of the year – it makes my heart happy! All the Christmas party invites have been rolling through, including everything from small gatherings with my closest girlfriends to work-related functions. And when it comes to what to wear, trust me – every party is not created equal. I have learned it is important to adapt your outfit to match the occasion. To help you get inspired, here are some holiday outfit ideas for every party you might have an invite to.

Potluck Dinner

This type of holiday party is truly one of my favorites because it most definitely means good company and delicious food! Typically, these celebrations take place at someone’s home, which means you can keep your outfit pretty relaxed. Since your activities will involve eating a copious amount, I’d probably opt for high-waisted leather pants and a casual sweater in a festive shade of green or red. Since you probably won’t need to wear shoes throughout the party, a pair of loafers will suffice!

Obviously, we don’t want to look too much like jolly ol’ Saint Nick so keep it chic with some flattering pieces like hip-hugging pants, a jumpsuit, and/or and heeled boots.

Cocktail Party

Whatever you do, please don’t force yourself to wait for NYE to pull out your rich textures – think sequins, velvet, and leather! These statement-making, light-catching materials are fitting for any upcoming cocktail party. After all, there is nothing more festive than a little sparkle. Brightly colored sequins are for when you want to go all out or you can keep it a little more subdued with patent leather. Whatever you decide, make sure to play it up with equally shining jewelry and your best pair of heels.

Speaking of sequins, why not carry over this trend into this year’s office party? Rather than a mini cocktail dress, a jubilant sequined blouse keeps your look playful while still being workwear appropriate. To finish off the look, you can pair it with some satin pants to further manifest the holiday cheer. You can even layer over a solid blazer on top of the look for an optional extra layer. Family Gathering

Luckily, there are not too many strangers you need to impress during your holiday family gathering. That being said, you still want to look put together because there is always that aunty taking a ton of photos. For your fam party, I love the idea of a simple top and a statement midi skirt. Whether it be a metallic, leather, or satin, a midi skirt is a great option because it’s fashionable but not too “out there”. You can layer it with a chunky knit or basic tee for maximum comfort too.
