I live for fall and winter layers but as the days get colder, my skin only gets duller. This is about that time of year that I start to adjust my skincare routine and makeup products to accommodate the dry, frigid air. At times, it seems nearly impossible to feel fresh and hydrated, but there are a few things you can do to revamp your routine and get glowing winter skin. Below, I’ve rounded up my favorite products to level up your radiance for the season ahead.

There’s little that retinol can’t do… Whether you’re on the hunt for something to prevent aging or improve and brighten texture, retinol might just be what you’re looking for. I personally love how it makes my pores appear smaller, evens out my skin, and helps prevent acne. Some might disagree with me here, but I believe there’s a plus side to using retinol-based products in the winter. The main reason being that retinols are a super active ingredient and makes skin more photo sensitive. The fact that we see less sun around this time of year is a bonus. The RoC Retinol Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is a cult favorite and perfect for starters. I’ve also been loving the Olay Retinol24 line (read my review here).

2. Incorporate exfoliating pads to your routine

If you’re not already using exfoliating pads, now’s a good time to start. I love them because they help you get a smoother and brighter complexion. When combined with a killer moisturizer, you’re sure to get that glowing winter skin. These RoC Resurfacing Pads are great because they’re gentle enough for daily use and also help remove makeup!

3. Try a sleeping mask

Hailing from Korea, sleeping masks have started to pop up more, and they’re truly a game changer when you need ultra-moisturized skin when you wake up. They’re made to be long-lasting and intensely hydrating (even more so than a moisturizer) so that you can sleep with them on. Some dermatologists suggest alternating with a multi-tasking night cream (love this one) for the best results. I’m always game to sleep my way to brighter and more youthful skin, and if you are too, try some of my picks below.

4. Use a hydrating mist

Hydration is obviously crucial in the winter, and the best time to apply your moisturizer is fresh out of the shower when your skin is damp. To be honest, I never get to this step till after my face has already dried off, which is why hydrating mists are life savers. I’ll usually mist my face all over, wait 30 seconds, and then apply my moisturizer. It really seals the deal. Once my makeup is on and set, I’ll finish with another spritz.

5. Try a glowing primer

Supplement your hydrating beauty routine with a glowing primer. I often use primers to fake that “lit from within” effect and they never fail me. The shimmer is usually subtle enough so that you don’t look overly greasy or glittery. Another way to heighten this effect is to add a drop of oil into your foundation or tinted moisturizer.
