HOW TO WEAR PLAID FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Date: Posted on Category: Outfit Location: ,
I think we can all agree that there is no season more appropriate for plaid than fall and winter. And since it’s one of my favorite prints to wear, I wanted to round up a few different ways you can wear plaid for the holidays. For this set of looks, I’ve decided to forgo the blazer since I’m sure you can think of a million ways to wear that. Instead, I’ll be focusing on four other pieces that are holiday appropriate and chic. Let’s take a look below!

Plaid Pants

First up is plaid pants. Being that it’s not quite Christmas, I would recommend sticking to plaid pants in rustic fall colors this one. However, if you must do green or red (like I did above), be sure to incorporate warmer hues like a mustard knit or a beige turtleneck sweater to make it more wearable for Thanksgiving. Refrain from gray and black plaids since they can often look too office-y and that’s the last thing you’d want to wear while you’re on vacation.

Plaid Cape

Another trendy piece that I’ve been into are plaid ponchos and capes. They fall in between dressy and casual, depending on how you style it, which is perfect for a family dinner. To put a strong fashion spin on it try belting it at the waist or adding a beret. It’s unlikely that you’ll find someone else wearing a similar outfit!

Plaid Dress

The plaid dress is one of my favorite classic yet bold fall trends. This wrap midi dress is a great piece to impress the parents. If you’re looking for casual options, you can’t go wrong with a layered pinafore dress or a plaid shirt dress. Both are my go-tos for relaxed comfort – and they’re super easy to throw on. Pair this look with boots and a long coat.

Plaid Skirt

I don’t think it gets more holiday appropriate than a plaid skirt. This little piece pairs perfectly with any oversized chunky sweater or fitted ribbed knits that might already be hanging in your closet. If the weather is too cold for bare legs, add sheer tights and knee high boots for a touch of 70s. Swap out loafers and flats for sock boots if you want to avoid that preppy school girl vibe.
