This year has already been incredibly busy for me and it’s hard to believe that summer is basically here! You probably noticed all the traveling and work that’s been going on my end – and while it seemed fun, there’s nothing I’ve looked forward to most than family time! I’m so happy to finally get time to relax with my little family. It’s so often that you guys see me jetting off somewhere that I really wanted to show a more personal side of me and share how I spent a long weekend getaway with my family – my ideal version of summer fun!

Below is a quick recap of our time and some of the best practices I always follow for a safe and smooth trip:

– Picking the right event.

I had been planning to attend the annual open-air food festival in Brooklyn for a while now. From my experience, I knew that the carousel rides and games would be perfect for the kids while Dan and I can enjoy food tasting and drinks. He’s a major foodie, so this was a huge win for everyone.

As you can see, Hazel and Capri were delighted by the rides, balloons, and the smallest things like orange juice! My favorite family trips are those where everyone has a great time – and this was no doubt the highlight of my weekend!

– Using a reliable means of transportation.

I think I’ve made it clear up to this point that if I don’t have to, I prefer not to drive. I’m so happy for Uber’s existence and you probably notice that I use Uber all the time – literally. The app is available in over 600 cities around the world and you just need to request a ride when ready. This is my favorite choice because the driver already knows where I’m headed, payment is taken care of via phone, and this allows me to play with my kids. My girls love my attention especially after long trips and they deserve it. With the new features Uber is rolling out, this method of transportation is not only reliable, but improving in safety and quality.

– Keeping friends and family in the loop.

As a mom of two little girls, safety is my priority when taking trips no matter how near or far. Sure, a fun-filled day is always the goal, but safety comes first. What I really love about Uber is that they’re constantly updating their app to include effective features. Uber’s latest launch, Trusted Contacts, is perfect for my family! It allows you to designate up to five family members and friends as Trusted Contacts, so you can set up reminders and share your trip with them. My mom is often worried about us when we’re on the road. Using this feature lets her know when I’ve arrived and when I’ll be back – it’s so convenient rather than constantly texting back and forth. Plus, I sometimes forget! You can set this up on your phone by following these steps:

  1. Go to settings and select “Share My Trip” in the app, or select Share My Trip from the card in your feed.
  2. Select the contacts you want to share with. Then tap the share icon in the top left corner to start.
  3. People you share your trip with will see where you are on a live map, trip status, and details like your driver-partner’s name, phone number, and license plate number. They won’t see anything else about anyone you’re riding with.
  4. Finally, you can stop sharing anytime by pressing the “Stop Sharing” button.

– Have a backup plan in emergency situations.

Although traveling almost always results in a pleasant experience, you never know. My suggestion is to be prepared for any emergency situation. Uber just released an Emergency Assistance feature which allows you to call 911 directly from the app. You can feel assured knowing that you have this function at your fingertips if needed. The extra peace of mind is always worth it for me!
