It may still be warm out but fall is definitely stuck on my mind. In terms of style, I think autumn is a more superior season because it means we can bring back things like layering and cute, cold weather accessories. As always, each season also introduces (or reintroduces) some different trends that make me so excited! Thus, I am already working on transitioning my wardrobe with some pieces from previous years, as well as some new items worth investing in for the colder months to follow. This fall is going to be different as we continue to social distance during the pandemic. However, it does not mean you can stop looking your best. If you are getting ready for transitioning your clothing, here are some of the most popular fall 2020 trends you can get a head start on!

Square-Toe Boots & Booties

This upcoming season, you can expect to see a large resurgence in square-toe boots. This trend may have started via sandals and mesh pumps but it’s now trickled into fall footwear too. The good news is, they’re incredibly easy to style. Whether you opt for a bootie or a knee-high version, you can style them as any other boot. I’m loving the look with a full-on slouchy look – think relaxed pieces like an oversized tee and jacket.

Leather Separates

Leather continues to play a huge role this upcoming season. Rather than just the typical leather motorcycle jacket (which is still totally relevant, by the way) you will see it morphed into other coats such as trenches and blazers for ultimate cool girl layering. Additionally, this year, leather will also be extending to non-outerwear items. Gear up your fall and winter wardrobe with hot pieces like leather trousers, skirts, long shorts, and of course – accessories like handbags and shoes.

One of the fall 2020 trends that I feel you can recycle from previous seasons and years is the slouchy blazer. It has been such a staple item for the longest time. However, if you are looking to update your collection, definitely do not be afraid to jump into the oversized, menswear inspired territory. This fall, there will continue to be a focus on blazers but ones with boxy fits, elongated hems or asymmetrical detailing. The more adrogyonous, the better. Blazers are so universal now too. Pop on your oversized piece with some sweatpants or pair with some short and OTK boots for a show-stopping look.

Contemporary Trench Coats

Aside from blazers, trench coats are another outerwear must-have you need to add to your shopping list. A classic, beige Burberry-esque coat is never really going to go out of style, but just like the aforementioned blazer trend – there is a more focus on modern, reworked editions this year. For instance, get ready to see an influx of trench coats with all leather, balloon sleeves, and everything in between. These unique details make your trench coat stand out from more basic designs.

Sophisticated glam is back and better than ever this fall. This is actually one of the fall 2020 trends I am most excited for as an avid lover of sparkle and shine. Metallic woven fabrics and embellishments are a must this upcoming season. This could take the form of things like a sequined dress, a lustre fabric suit sets, or a foil printed skirt. Anything with a touch of shine to add a bit of decadence and elevation to your everyday fall look.
